Nature Adventures

Blue Springs

The world famous Blue Spring State Park is nestled within the east bank of the St. Johns River in Orange City, Florida. Here, we will traverse crystal clear waters that flow directly from the underwater cavern. Then, we will return to the river where you will be ushered along by the tranquil flow of the cool, spring water.  Keeping a sharp eye in this location is essential as it is not uncommon to spot a playful Manatee looking back at you!  Still, this is not the only wild encounter you will experience on this particular tour. Once out in the St. Johns we will be greeted by all types of wading birds, alligators and turtles peeking out of the floating vegetation. As we work our way into the back-waters you will develop a heightened appreciation of old Florida. This tour is truly a majestic experience designed to unite people with the natural environment.

 Wekiva River

Wekiva River is a spring fed waterway which is what makes this one of the world’s most unique paddling trails.  Wekiva River was created by the combination of Rock and Wekiva Springs natural outflow of water from the aquifer.  This river is very diverse, being as narrow as twenty five feet in one area and broadening out to over three hundred feet of vegetation flats. It is home to many wading and perch hunting bird species.  Throughout nearly the entire trip you can view the bottom of the river and the lush eel grass clinging to the river bed.

 Circumnavigate Hontoon Island

This is a great all day adventure!  Starting off at French Landing we paddle into Blue Springs and search for the endangered Manatee. Then we experience the beautiful spring run we head out to the St. Johns River; back waters that twist and turn all the way to the Hontoon Dead River.  The tour then takes the Dead River along the west side of the island heading north to the state park entrance.  Once at the State Park we are nearly half way through our journey.  This is our break spot where you can get out and stretch your legs, eat lunch and enjoy the state parks museum, as well as view some replica artifacts left behind from the Timucua natives that once inhabited this area of Florida.  Then we return back to the landing by skirting along Lake Beresford and heading south on the St. Johns.
